In the clip, Jon Bon Jovi drives through the ghetto in a red car and into a middle class suburban neighborhood. He pulls up to a brick ranch-style house that has a “for sale” sign in front of it. As he sings reaches the line in the song, “This house is not for sale,” he pulls away and continues driving. Other scenes in the video take place in a graveyard crawling with gnarled tree roots and in the lobby of a mansion, where the band performs.
Anthemic and filled with sing-a-long hooks, “This House is Not for Sale,” conjures past Bon Jovi rockers like “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “It’s My Life.” The lyrics touch on themes of adhering to principles and refusing to give up in the face of adversity.
“I set each stone and I hammered each nail/ This house is not for sale/ The memories live and the dream don’t fail/ This house is not for sale,” sings Bon Jovi in the chorus.
The band’s new album, also called This House Is Not For Sale, will be released on October 21st.
